Take Acton & Make Some Noise In 24 days, on May 6, I will run the Pittsburgh half marathon: 13.1 miles of celebrating life. A year ago, to be specific it was ten months ago, it was unimaginable that I would be strong enough to take a long walk. The thought of running at all…anywhere…wasn’t even a consideration for me.

Optimized Azathioprine Can Be Effective for Neuromyelitis Optica Weight-based dosing, laboratory monitoring for biologic effect, and concurrent use of prednisone are important for treatment success. Azathioprine is often used to prevent relapses in patients with neuromyelitis optica (NMO), but data on its efficacy are limited.

This was written by John, who is between the MS/NMO diagnosis.? I wanted to share it with you as I found it to be very positive and uplifting.? Grace A NEW CHAPTER. The above photo is of my daughter heading out the door for her day at kindergarten: a new chapter. This day closes a chapter in my life.

If you have been told you need to do intermittent self-catheterization, it is because your bladder does not empty completely or perhaps it does not empty at all. There are many causes for this problem: stroke, spinal cord injury, diabetes, spina bifida, and obstruction to the outflow of urine are the most common reasons. Sometimes after an operation on the colon such as a colostomy, the bladder does not empty well and patients may need to catheterize themselves for several weeks or months until the bladder begins to function normally again.

Lidocaine unmasks silent symptoms and eases neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis patients; however, the effects of lidocaine in neuromyelitis optica have never been reported. We describe the case of a 59-year-old Japanese woman with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder who developed optic neuritis 1 day after intravenous lidocaine injection for treating allodynia. Her symptom seemed to result from a relapse of neuromyelitis optica induced by lidocaine administration, and not because of the transient effects of intravenous lidocaine administration.
