OBJECTIVE: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is currently considered a severe relapsing CNS demyelinating disorder that is associated with aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G (NMO-IgG) while in earlier reports of NMO in childhood it has been described as a benign and monophasic disorder.
